How convertexa works

A conversion server is slow, private-hostile and expensive. convertexa runs the same conversion engines locally, in a WebAssembly sandbox, so the file never has to travel anywhere.

  1. 1. Add your file

Drag it in or pick it from your device. convertexa reads the first bytes of the file to identify the real format, not just the extension.

  2. 2. Choose the output

Only the conversions that are actually implemented for your format are shown, each with the settings that matter for that pair.

  3. 3. Convert and download

The conversion runs in a sandboxed worker with real codecs. Progress is reported as it happens, and the result downloads straight to your device.

Convert by category

Every category is backed by a real, working engine.

Built for people who care about their files

Your files never leave

Conversions run in a Web Worker inside your browser. There is no upload endpoint, no temporary storage and no log of your documents.

Real codecs, honest results

HEIC is decoded with libheif, AVIF with libavif, video and audio with FFmpeg. No tool is ever advertised before its engine works.

No watermarks, no upsell

The result you download is the whole result. There is no premium tier that holds your file hostage.

Works on a phone

The interface is responsive, the engines are lightweight enough for mobile, and everything works with a keyboard or a screen reader.

Honest limits

Every tool page lists what the conversion cannot do, and the size at which a browser starts to struggle.

Open source engines

convertexa stands on libjpeg-turbo, libwebp, libavif, libheif, FFmpeg, pdf.js, Mammoth, ExcelJS and fonteditor-core — all listed with their licences.

Questions

Everything about how the converter handles your files, and exactly which formats are supported.

Is convertexa really free?

Yes. The converter is free and needs no account. The site is supported by clearly labelled advertising, which never interferes with a conversion or a download.

Where are my files processed?

On your own device. The conversion engines are compiled to WebAssembly and run inside a sandboxed worker in your browser. Your file is never uploaded to a server and never stored.

Which formats are supported?

Images (PNG, JPEG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC, TIFF, BMP, GIF, ICO, SVG), documents (PDF, DOCX, HTML, Markdown, TXT, RTF, EPUB), data (CSV, XLSX, JSON, XML, YAML), archives (ZIP, TAR, TAR.GZ), fonts (TTF, OTF, WOFF, WOFF2) and media (MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, AVI, MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A, OGG, Opus, AAC).

Do the conversions really work, or are the files just renamed?

They really work. Every tool is backed by a real codec — libjpeg-turbo, libwebp, libavif, libheif, FFmpeg, pdf.js, Mammoth, ExcelJS and more. convertexa never advertises a conversion it cannot perform.

Is there a file size limit?

There is no server limit because there is no server. The practical limit is your device memory: a few hundred megabytes is comfortable on a modern laptop, and video conversion needs more because the whole file is held in memory.

Can I use convertexa offline?

Yes. After the first visit the page and its engines are cached by the browser, so the converter keeps working without a connection.
